International and regional cooperation to support Arab monitoring reports of progress in adult learning and education and lifelong learning

IN cooperation between the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE), the International Cooperation Foundation of the German Adult Education Association (DVV International) and the Arab House for Adult Education and Development (AHAED), an electronic seminar was organized that brought together the national coordinating bodies and civil society parties concerned with adult learning and education. The symposium was the initiative to launch joint action to support national coordinating bodies in monitoring reports of progress in adult learning and education and lifelong learning, which will feed into the Global Report to Monitor Progress in Adult Learning and Education and Lifelong Learning (GRALE).

The Arab House for Adult Education and Development, in cooperation with the International Cooperation Foundation of the German Adult Education Association, is working to provide more support and capacity-building for civil society and the national coordinating bodies, with the aim of preparing for an active and influential Arab participation in the seventh international conference on adult education CONFINTEA, which will be held in 2022 in Morocco.

Focal Point Meeting

As a follow up to the Webinar “Enhancing national capacities for monitoring adult learning and education – Arab States” organized by UIL, DVV International and ICAE on 27.07.2020, an invitation to exchange regarding the possible cooperation between Focal Points and representatives of civil society during the writing of national reports for CONFINTEA VII.

For the exchange DVV International and AHAED organized an online working meeting with participation of Focal Points from Arab Countries, DVV International staff from regional and country offices from Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco and Palestine as well as the AHAED staff.

The meeting took place on Tuesday 11.08.2020 at 10:00 Moroccan/ Tunisian time, 11:00 Egyptian time and 12:00 Jordanian, Lebanese and Palestinian time.

Partnership Meeting – Egypt

Within the framework of the Egyptian state’s preparation for the Global report on adult learning and education ( GRALE 5) with DVV International and Arab House for Education and Development (AHAED); The Arab Network for Literacy and Adult Education and partnership with the Egyptian government, represented by Adult Education Authority, held a group of coordination meetings to ensure effective partnership between government’s institutions, civil society and education and development experts Participants to prepare the GRALE 5 report.

Partnership Meeting – Lebanon

The Arab Network for Popular Education / Ecumenical Project for Popular Education (the Lebanese Educational Coalition) with the support of the Arab House for Adult Learning and Development (AHAED) held a three-day strategic planning meeting from December 3- 5, 2020. It was a fruitful meeting in which the participants discussed the GRALE 4 report with Dr. Nemat Geagea representing the Ministry of Social Affairs and possibility of partnership in the future as well as the strategy and building of the Lebanese Educational Coalition, and the development of a strategic plan for the Lebanese Education Coalition for a period of at least one year to keep pace with education in light of the Corona pandemic and the current conditions Lebanon is going through. The members of the Coordinating Committee of the Coalition were also designated, bearing the responsibility of registering the coalition and reformulating the goals that were formulated from representatives of the partner organizations.

Marrakech Framework for Action event – Post CONFINTEA VII
Sohag – June 18, 2023

Many personalities representing different sectors in the governorate, including the governmental sector, civil sector, as well as private sector, participated in the seminar, which was organized by the Arab House for Adult Education and Development (AHAED (with Horus Foundation for Development in Sohag, in Upper Egypt. The number of participants was around 50 persons, in which the proportion of women is equal to that of men represented the following sectors.

“CONFINTEA VII – Follow-up on the Marrakech Framework,”

Under the patronage and presence of His Excellency the Minister of Social Affairs in Lebanon, Dr. Hector Hajjar, and with the participation of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Arab House for Adult Education and Development (AHAED), in collaboration with the UNESCO Office in Beirut, organized an educational meeting titled: “CONFINTEA VII – Follow-up on the Marrakech Framework,” on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at the UNESCO Office in Beirut. The meeting included opening remarks and discussions distributed across three sessions with educators, experts, institutions, and policymakers. The discussions featured participatory interventions from attendees and concluded with the reading of recommendations.
